Farewell to Commodore James McCormack

Club Announcements
Last Friday saw our Commodore of 5 years, James McCormack, stepping down.  We are so grateful to James for all his hard work and leadership over the last 5 very productive years and for getting Foynes Yacht Club's name out there not only nationally but worldwide.  James started sailing out of Foynes with the late Dick Nash from Newcastle West and PJ Scanlon from Shanagolden and credits his love of sailing to these people and to his late father Joe.  He also had great admiration for the late David Floyd who was a great mentor and who encouraged him to get involved in Foynes Yacht Club all those years ago.   We would like to take this opportunity to CONGRATULATE James on a job well done and wish him well in the future…

Official Opening of new Marina

Uncategorized
The opening ceremony for the new Marina was held on Monday 29th October.  It was a great occasion for the Club to have this great facility available to Foynes Yacht Club members and visiting boats.  This project was designed, constructed and totally funded by club members - no grants.  Every item was sourced and costed to the last cent, members gave their plant, machinery and cranage free of charge helping to keep the cost down and a few non-members helped out with the welding also. At the outset it was decided to go to outside Contractors for quotations, these quotations came back at €500,000.  Commodore James McCormack felt that this was a project that could be taken on by club members and put this idea to the committee and members.…

Try Sailing

Training, Uncategorized
Whether you've never sailed before, or would like to return to sailing after a break, we're here to help you decide what kind of boat you want to sail, and where to start. Clothing:  Dress warm and bring a rain coat (even if the sun is splitting the rocks), it is much cooler out on the water and you want to make sure you enjoy your time out there. Safety: Personal Flotation Devices (buoyancy aids and life jackets) will be provided and it is a requirement to wear them at all times while on and around the water.  All boats will have experienced skippers in control and safety boat cover is on hand at all times.
