Upwards of 500 people attended the Volvo Irish Sailing Awards 2018 in the RDS in Dublin on Friday the 8th February.  Hosted by Irish Sailing with Afloat Magazine, the Volvo Irish Sailing Awards aim to highlight the breadth of sailing across the Country.

Massive CONGRATULATIONS to James McCormack, former Commodore of Foynes Yacht Club, on receiving the Irish Sailing Presidents Award 2018 from Jack Roy for his “Outstanding contribution to, and Leadership of Foynes Yacht Club over many years”.  This was a big surprise on the night and to be recognised nationally was a huge honour.  Colm Barrington, former CEO of Aer Lingus and Chairman of the Olympic Council of Ireland was also given an award from the President.

Jack congratulated James on his vision, can do attitude, and leadership qualities.  He also congratulated him on spearheading the building of the Marina/Pontoon at Foynes Yacht Club.  This project, at the outset came in at a cost of €500,000 but was built for just under €100,000. He admired James for encouraging members of Foynes Yacht Club to take ownership of their club, to be proud of what they have and to work together.  Jack congratulated James and the members of Foynes Yacht Club for their hard work and great achievement on the Marina/Pontoon.

James, (always one to give praise but not good at taking praise),  from all at Foynes Yacht Club we CONGRATULATE you on your achievements and on this very well deserved Award and reiterate the words of Jack Roy, Irish Sailing President, and CONGRATULATE you for your “outstanding contribution to, and Leadership of Foynes Yacht Club over the years”.
