Mermaid Munster Championships

A Windswept Weekend of Sailing Success!

What a weekend! The Mermaid Munster Championships were held at the club over the weekend, and despite some seriously challenging weather, the spirit of sailing prevailed!

We were delighted to welcome travelling boats from Dun Laoghaire, Rush, Skerries, and Wexford, bring with them great competition and camaraderie. High winds tested both sailors and equipment, but the determination and skill on display were inspiring.

Race Officer, Michael Head, and his superb team did an outstanding job, managing to run two races – on e on Saturday and one on Sunday – despite the conditions. While there were a few capsizes and two boats were forced to retire due to damage, everyone pulled together to ensure a safe and enjoyable event.

A huge thank you goes out to Commodore, Patricia McCormack, and her tireless onshore and offshore team for organising such a successful championship. Thanks also to Michael Lynch, Class Captain FYC, and Darrach Dineen, President of the MSA, for their contributions. A special shout-out to Scorie Walls from Howth, who supported Michael Head in a new capacity – great to have you involved, Scorie!

It was especially heartening to see our young sailors actively crewing and helping out around the club, and to cheer on our female helms – Anna, Mary, and Kate – who sailed brilliantly. Go ladies!

Congratulations to our top three: 1st – Darragh, Mark, and Noel McCormack on 188 Innocence (FYC); 2nd Michael & Roisin Lynch & Ivan Joyce on 119 Three Chevrons (FYC); and 3rd: Darrach Dineen, Clodagh McGuire, Breda Magner, and Brian Fenlon on 102 Endeavour (RSC).

A heartfelt thanks to all competitors who travelled and made the effort to attend – your dedication keeps the Mermaid spirit alive.

We’re already looking forward to the Skerries Regatta coming up soon on the 28th and 29th June. See you all on the water again!
