Our first cruise of the season was to Kilrush Marina on Saturday at 1400 hrs. Seven boats travelled in a westerly breeze 12 to 14 knots. We were delighted to sail part of the journey with Conor and Bernadette on “Peggy M” as they start their circumnavigation of the Island of Ireland. We arrived in Kilrush at approximately 1800 hrs and were met by Simon McGibney, Marina Manager, who gave us a great welcome and even had a barbecue organised for us. We were truly fortunate to have Head Chef – Tom Murray with us, who took on the role like a pro for the evening, starting at 2000 hrs, and barbecued up a delicious feast for everyone!! Suzanne (Kiely) treated us all to some of her rare “Sea Dog” which ran like fire through our bodies, warming us up in no time, and to our singers, what can I say, such talent!! It was great to meet up with old friends, especially Elaine, a former Secretary of Foynes Yacht Club, as we had not met her in a long time. Before leaving on Sunday, Simon gave us a tour of their impeccable boat yard where we saw the Dublin Bay 21s under construction. We departed Kilrush at 1200 hrs, motoring home, no wind, just glorious sunshine, stopping off at Kilteery Pier, the home port of Ger Reidy, for a cup of coffee and a chat with some of the locals. We encountered the beautifully restored Ilen on their Sunday cruise with a large contingent of Foynes Yacht Club members on board. We arrived back in Foynes at 1800 hrs all relaxed after having a very enjoyable few days. Thanks to everybody for taking part, to Simon and Kilrush Marina for the great welcome and last but not least to our Cruising Captain, James, for organising a very successful and enjoyable cruise. Looking forward to seeing you all again on our next outing!
