Huge congratulations to Jonathan O’Rourke and Crew – Alan O’Rourke and Kate Grimes, on 77 Tiller Girl – from the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire – the 2025 Mermaid Champions!
Well done to Brian Fenlon and Crew from WHBTC who secured 2nd place on 131 Wild Wind, and to Darragh McCormack and Crew Mark and Noel McCormack from FYC who came 3rd on 188 Innocence. A special shout-out to Noel McCormack (FYC), who won the Crews Race, to Oisin Finucane (FYC) who won the Finucane Cup for best U25 helm, and to the winners of the Daphne and Designer fleets.
What a fantastic championship – incredibly competitive and full of close racing. The leaderboard changed hands three times, with numerous shake-ups in overall positions, keeping everyone on their toes right to the end.
FYC boats performed strongly in tough conditions. It was great to see Oisin Finucane, Eoin Boylan, and Cormac Conneely take 3rd place in the final race on 165 Seafox. A shout out to Dylan Reidy (FYC) who crewed on 165 Seafox the first two days. Oisin also won the Finucane Cup for Best U25 Helm, 119 Three Chevrons, helmed by Vincent McCormack, and crewed by Michael and Roisin Lynch, sailed consistently well throughout the event. Noel McCormack won the Crews Race on 188 Innocence, Mary McCormack, Amelie Brogan Ryan, and Ben Schumaker, on 22 Joy, who overcame some technical issues and still managed a great showing. And Darragh, Mark, and Noel McCormack on 188 Innocence came 3rd overall.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable event. Huge thanks to Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club for hosting, and special thanks to Cillian and Derek Joyce for all their help throughout the week.
Last but certainly not least, sincere thanks to Scorie Walls and her team – Mike Head, Suzanne Cruise, Eoin Thompson, and James McCormack – for setting excellent courses in challenging conditions. Commiserations to Scorie, who suffered a wrist injury on the final day. We wish her a speedy recovery. Thank you to Mike for stepping up as Race Officer, and to James for assisting him.
