2018 National Mermaid Title Victory for Foynes Yacht Club

Mermaids, Uncategorized
Huge CONGRATULATIONS to our 2018 NATIONAL MERMAID CHAMPIONS Darragh McCormack, Mark McCormack and Johnny Dillon on 188 Innocence. This is the first time since the Dublin Bay National Mermaid Championships started in 1953 that a Foynes boat has claimed the Mermaid National Title, needless to say, the onshore welcome party didn't hold back with hooters, champagne, family and friends coming to greet the NEW CHAMPIONS as 188 Innocence came back to the slip! The Championship came to a close on Sunday evening after four great days of racing in a very competitive fleet.  Race Officer for the event, Scorie Wall, perfectly executed the scheduled racing with ten races and one crew race, all in the bag as planned. Scorie was complemented throughout the event for her excellent race management and…

OPPI Connacht Championships

Uncategorized
Well done to Killian Reidy and Conor Clifford who took part in the Oppi Connacht Championships held in Lough Derg Yacht Club recently.  They were both in the senior fleet, with Killian in the senior gold and Conor in the senior silver.  Killian came 17th overall out of 42 sailors in the senior fleet, his first top 20 finish since moving up to senior gold.  Conor finished all races which was a great achievement as the wind was so light.  Conor was awarded "The most sporting Sailor Award" in the silver fleet.

Cruise to Scattery Island & Cappa

Cruising
We had previously decided to go to Beale on Sunday last but due to the morning being very overcast and the wind direction not being suitable a decision was made to cruise to Scattery Island and Cappa instead.  In all, thirteen boats cruised in company (9 Yachts, 3 Motor Cruisers, and a Dublin Bay Mermaid) in what turned out to be a beautiful day for sailing.  It was great to see our teenage mermaid sailors, Oisin, Ross and Tadhg taking part in 114 Nicahpando.  They gave a great exhibition of their skills and kept all the sailors entertained on the way. First stop was Scattery Island, located approximately one mile off Kilursh.  Scattery Island is home to a monastic settlement founded in the early 6th century by St. Senan.  Such a…
