Boats from various clubs on the river Shannon gathered together in Limerick recently for a nice acoustic evening for Mental Health Awareness. There was a procession of boats from the Docks to Thomondgate. People gathered on all bridges with their phone or torch to "light up the river" in support of this great cause. Boats were lit up also, even the "Liam McCarthy Cup" was in the procession and lit up! Well done to Killian Reidy, representing Foynes Yacht Club in the Senior Gold Fleet, at the Oppie National Championships 2018 in Kinsale in August. Killian finished 29th overall out of 70 competitors. Among the Irish competitors, Killian finished 19th which is his second top 20 finish in the Irish rankings.
Congratulations to Oisin Finucane who won the "Best U/25 Helm" at the 2018 National Mermaid Championships. The Finucane family presented a Perpetual Cup to the Mermaid Sailing Association this year for the "Best U/25 Helm" to be competed for during the National Mermaid Championships. This Cup was presented by the Finucane family in honour of Michael's unwavering dedication to Foynes Yacht Club, sadly Michael passed away earlier this year. Michael had a great love for wooden boats and would be very proud to see his grandsons Oisin and Sean carry on the tradition and even better still for Oisin to win the Cup. Well done also to Oisin's crew, Sean Finucane and Christopher McDaid. A great weekend for Foynes Yacht Club with two boats coming out on top!
